A collaborative batch design project by RISD Furniture Design students Claire Lovett, Anay Agarwal, Sophia Eichmann, and Amy Chen.

Spring 2025

3″ x 4″ x 7″ White Ash, India Ink, Brass

Furniture Design sophomores were tasked with designing, prototyping, and producing a batch of 13 identical objects, with an emphasis on consistency, craftsmanship, and small-batch production.

The project required establishing a unified target audience and cohesive aesthetic, conducting market research, as well as considering where and how the object would be sold.

The process included iterative mockups and functional prototypes, material and finishing tests, and the development of efficient fabrication methods to ensure repeatability, such as sanding and router jigs and custom glue-up cauls, reinforcing the connection between design intent and practical manufacturing constraints.
